The workshop is open!

The last few weeks have been incredibly exciting, because our workshop is up & running! 🥳 In order to make an impact quickly, we have paused the construction of our own workshop in Sunyani, and we will first get to work in our rented space in Kumasi. Here we have set up our workshop, we bought the machines and placed them on beautiful working tables made by the carpenter. Right now Asante, our chief engineer, is working here with his first employee, Emmanuel! With the bamboo stock they have collected, they will focus on further developing the prototypes of the mobility devices in the coming months. In this process, they will work together with the end users and the hospitals in the area. We also visited Ghana with the a Dutch team to see all of this and celebrate our progress together. 😁

Albert Schweitzer Prijs 2026!

Amazing...! Last week we received the Albert Schweitzer Prize and the title 'Health Pioneer of the Year 2026'! 💫 It was a very inspiring afternoon with many wonderful initiatives. We are incredibly happy and proud to have received this recognition from the Albert Schweitzer Foundation.🎋 Thanks to prize award from Achmea Foundation, we can take a great steps forward!

After receiving the encouragement price from Albert Schweitzer, construction is going on in Sunyani! All materials have been purchased, the necessary people have been assembled, and the foundation has been laid! More will be visible in the next steps, as the walls will be built! Meanwhile, Marjelle has traveled to Ghana and will welcome Lieke here tomorrow to bring our Dutch and Ghanaian teams together and enjoy the progress in real life!

Albert Schweitzer Price Award

Last Wednesday the finals for the Albert Schweitzer Price took place in Amsterdam. It was a beautiful and inspiring day. It was wonderful to hear about the different kind of health initiatives that people are working on. Unfortunately we did not go home with the first price, but we did receive a beautiful encouragement price that we can use to take our next steps!

Registered as NGO in Ghana

Move by bamboo is now also officially registered as a NGO (Non-governmental Organisation) in Ghana! Asante, Maclean and Stacy successfully completed this procedure together.
New team member in Ghana

While we are preparing for the construction of the workplace in Ghana, we have added a wonderful new member to our team in Ghana: Stacy Konadu Mensah! As a wheelchair tennis player, she knows very well how valuable access to a proper wheelchair is, and what is means for one's health and quality of life. We are very excited that she is joining our team in Ghana! Read more about Stacy on our page 'who we are'.
Reached our first goal!

We have reached another milestone: the news page of our website is live! And that is just in time because we have some very good news! Thanks to your support, we have reached our goal and raised 2000 euros in just over a month! We are incredibly grateful to all of you - our family, friends (former) colleagues, and supporters. With this start fund, Asante's dream is one step closer to reality, and we can begin building the workshop in Ghana. To stay updated on our progress, you will soon be able to follow us on Instagram. We will also continue to share major milestones with you here on this news page!
